These fun hats are all the rage and useful year round.  This is a reversible bucket hat that you can make in the size you need, the color(s) you want, and the fabric you choose.  Make your first hat with non-directional quilters cotton and lightweight fusible interfacing.  Make one side out of waterproof fabric (waxed canvas or laminated cotton) and you’ve got a rain hat too!  Pre-class Homework is required before class starts.

Supply List:

Sewing Machine - in good working order.  Don't forget your foot pedal and power cord!

½ yd Main outside fabric

½ yd Lining fabric

½ yd lightweight fusible interfacing (Pellon SF101 or #931TD)

Thread to match for topstitching

Sewing machine with power cord & foot pedal

Sewing Feet:  ¼” foot, Zipper foot, Reg/Zigzag foot

Size 90/14 needle, new

Scissors, rotary cutter, cutting mat, pins, wonder clips, fabric marking pen, stiletto, ripper, point turner,

Optional: bring drink, snack

Pre-class Homework:

Please have all bucket hat fabric cut before class and fuse SF101 interfacing to main fabric pieces (see #4 below).  The Orange Bettie pattern makes an Extra Large Size and the AppleGreenCottage pattern contains 5 sizes.

To select your size, measure circumference of your head & select pattern size below:

               XS – Baby = 17-18”

                S – Child = 19-20”

                M – Teenager = 21-22”

                L – Adult = 23-24”

               XL – Extra-Large = 24-25”

Print out Pattern.  I printed 6 copies, one for original and 5 more to cut out each size.

Cut from Main fabric:  1ea Crown Top, 2ea Crown Side, 2ea Brim – iron interfacing to wrong sides.

Cut from Lining fabric:  1ea Crown Top, 2ea Crown Side, 2ea Brim.

NOTE:  Crown Sides & Brims are all cut on the FOLD.
