Tropical Splendor
Join Kelly Ashton on a 60-degree patchwork tropical vacation at KC Maker Studio! The Tropical Splendor project provides the opportunity to explore fussy-cutting and machine-piecing quilt blocks using the partial seam technique (NOT the same a “y-seams”!) The quilt top setting has placement for 15 large blocks with 24 small Wheel blocks as cornerstones. Kelly has used several different large blocks in her sample. The blocks are quick and easy to piece, and Kelly will guide you every step of the way as you explore the technique and blocks featured in the project from her new book, Spinners, Spirals & Stars: Hexagons WITH Movement and WITHOUT “Y-Seams”!
You get to decide whether to use one, two, or more large blocks throughout your quilt top. The mandatory project set of Kellyquilter Acrylic Templates makes cutting a breeze! We’ll begin by cutting and constructing the Aster block (the upper left large block in the quilt.) You may piece the Aster block for all fifteen large blocks OR purchase additional templates to piece one or more additional blocks. Any templates required for the additional blocks can be purchased in class or ordered any time after class. By the end of class, you will be equipped with the information and experience you need to piece any of the blocks pictured in Kelly’s Tropical Splendor quilt and beyond! Skill level: confident beginner and beyond (must already have rotary cutting experience and machine-piecing experience.) Project set of templates: $40.
