Kaleidoscope Quilt - Paper-pieced
Feeling creative and want to design your own quilt pattern? The color placement is what brings the Kaleidoscope Quilt to life and makes each one unique. While it may look complicated, it's not and Betsy will walk you through Paper Piecing techniques and provide tips for your success. You can create your unique design of colors or copy her sample. Use what YOU want and what makes you HAPPY! Buy new fabric or use your stash. FAT QUARTER friendly and SCRAP friendly! Check out “Kaleidoscope Quilt Patterns” on Pinterest for color ideas.
Select the size of quilt you want - you're the designer! Size options: 36" sq, 60" sq, 84"sq, or 108"sq
This class is broken up into 4 sessions. We'll meet from 10am - 2pm on October 12, November 9, December 14 and January 11.
Session #1 – planning & designing quilt pattern, plan fabric options - Just bring colored pencils to session 1 and we’ll plan & discuss designs, colors, & fabrics. Then we'll calculate how much fabric you'll need.
Session #2 - cut fabric and the paper piecing begins on block units - you’ll need 1/8 -1/4 yard of 7 different colored fabrics - tonal or small prints will work best. The light, medium and dark background fabric requirements will be provided at planning session 1, because it depends on your quilt size.
Session #3 – will sew units together
Session #4 – will sew blocks together
Kit Fee - $15 - paid to instructor during Session 1 - includes pattern printed on newsprint so you're ready to sew
Supply List:
45 & 90 degree rulers OR we recommend The Kaleido ruler by Marti Michell, (size large)
Colored Pencils
Add-a-Quarter Ruler - I use a 6”, but a 12” will also work
Sewing machine with power cord & foot pedal
Sewing Feet: ¼” foot & Zigzag foot
Size 90/14 needle, new
Favorite notions: Scissors, Tweezers, Stiletto, Seam Ripper, PINS – long & strong!
Rotary cutter
18”x24” cutting mat
12” square cutting mat (optional for trimming blocks while you're sewing)
4.5” x 8.5” ruler , or similar size
