Thrift & Upcycle Workshop with Karen and Jordan

Are you interested in Upcycling your clothing? Get your creative juices flowing and be ready to join Karen and Jordan for this 3 hour upcycle sewing session at KC Maker Studio.
You will need to bring:
- Your working sewing machine from home
- Fabric Scissors
- Beginner/Intermediate sewing skills
- Your own items to upcycle
- All of your creativity!
- We will provide- ideas, guidance, cheerleading and snacks!!
Suggestions:
- Keep your design simple. Unless you are an experienced sewer, you may want to keep it simple and skip the pockets and zippers. We would love for you to leave with a finished project, but there is a chance you will need to finish your project at home. No worries…we will be available for help through email or FaceTime!
- Suggested items – adding embellishing/appliqueing or replacing plackets on denim jackets, jeans or other apparel, resizing and retooling a larger dress or other item, blankets/quilts to hoodies or jackets, turning a long dress into a romper, turning a dress into a two piece skirt and top, combining 2 or more sweatshirts/hoodies.
- Peruse Pinterest and search Instagram hashtag #upcycleclothing, #upcyclefashion etc. for some great ideas!
Optional, but highly encouraged! Join instructor Karen Sullivan for a thrifting excursion on Friday, April 12th, to pick items for the class or for future projects. We'll visit 2 thrift stores:
- Savers in Shawnee 5:00-6:00pm
- City Thrift in Shawnee 6:15-7:00pm
We will scour the racks for possibilities to salvage and upcycle into new pieces for your wardrobe! This session is optional but oh so fun!! You can also bring items from home or go thrifting on your own.
Don’t Forget--
Using fabrics and other items from your own closet for upcycle, embellishment, trim, applique and more is highly encouraged!
