Laced and Boned: Corsetry For The Renaissance Wardrobe
In this multi-session class, you’ll create your own corset or pair of stays while learning the essential foundations of historical-inspired corsetry construction. We’ll cover:

Understanding corset and stays structure

Working with boning (steel or synthetic)

Creating and sewing boning channels
-
Installing grommets or eyelets for lacing
-
Proper fit and adjustments
-
Tips for strength, durability, and comfort
Whether you're preparing for a Renaissance Faire, building a theatrical costume, or adding a dramatic handmade piece to your wardrobe, this class will give you the skills to confidently construct a structured garment from start to finish.

Skill Level
This is an intermediate-level class. Students should be comfortable:

Reading and following a commercial pattern

Using a sewing machine independently

Sewing straight seams accurately
Corsetry experience is not required — we will guide you through the specialty techniques.

| Instructor Bio: | Maya Jones is a seamstress and costume designer from Pittsburgh, PA. A recent graduate from the University of Pittsburgh, she has come to Kansas City to be the Fiber Artist in Resident at Englewood Arts. In her own work, she specializes in historically inspired gowns and undergarment and she is passionate about cultivating a community of confident apparel sewists ready to transform their closets. |
