Garment Sewing 2.0 – Beyond the Basics
Ready to grow your garment sewing skills with the guidance and support of an experienced instructor? This class is perfect for students who have completed Intro to Garment Sewing or have basic sewing experience and are ready to take the next step.
In this mentor-style class, students will have the flexibility to choose a garment project that matches their skill level and sewing goals. Whether you want to tackle a skirt, dress, top, or another beginner-friendly garment, our instructor will guide you through the process while helping you build confidence in garment construction techniques, fitting, fabric handling, and finishing details.
Classes are designed to provide a supportive, small-group environment where students can work at their own pace while receiving individualized instruction and encouragement along the way.
Classes meet for 2 hours each week for 4 weeks and are limited to 8 students to ensure plenty of personalized mentoring and hands-on support.
Class Details:
• Choose your own garment project
• Instructor-guided mentoring throughout the class
• Build skills in garment construction, sewing techniques, and finishing
• Small class size for personalized instruction
• Participants must bring their own sewing machine and project supplies
• Supply needs will vary depending on selected project
• Recommended for ages 16 and up

Supply List:
Fabric for your project - per pattern instruction.
Sewing machine in good working order and user’s manual
Serger (optional)
All-purpose sewing thread to coordinate with fabric selected for project
Sharp fabric scissors (8” recommended)
Small thread snippers or embroidery scissors
Seam gauge
Seam ripper
Sewing pins and/or clips
Seamstress-style tape measure
Seam guide or painter’s tape
Fabric marking tools (heat or water soluble markers, chalk, or tracing paper and tracing wheels)
Rotary cutter with sharp blade

| Instructor Bio: | Maya Jones is a seamstress and costume designer from Pittsburgh, PA. A recent graduate from the University of Pittsburgh, she has come to Kansas City to be the Fiber Artist in Resident at Englewood Arts. In her own work, she specializes in historically inspired gowns and undergarment and she is passionate about cultivating a community of confident apparel sewists ready to transform their closets. |
